Black and White together have options for everything even if they’re playing some off meta jank. Don’t be afraid to try and brute force through Bontu’s Last Reckonings and Settle the Wreckages, the joy of this deck is how much value it can generate even when behind. You can even grind these decks out when they get their late game set up finished, it’s important to hold up a little removal for Torrential Gearhulks or Regal Caracals so you can ensure you win the race. With decks like UB Control and Approach the Second Sun, your board presence won’t matter as much but is still important. Shefet Dunes lets you efficiently finish people off with damage that is often forgotten for it being from a land. As the game goes on from this point you’ll naturally have a ton of pressure between Hidden Stockpile, Adanto, the First Fort, and all your graveyard Anointer Priests. Play the first few turns on the defensive, don’t be afraid to chump their creatures with your tokens or priests just to buy a few points of life, your goal will be trying to scale into turn 5 when you can usually fumigate or start//finish with procession out to create a high impact board presence. Unless the rest of the hand has really good early presence never ever keep multiple Anointed Processions, they tend to be a do nothing card that just helps set up for later. Anointer Priest, Legion’s Landing, and Fatal Push are almost always good in the opener to keep. Hidden Stockpile is nice to set up, but tends to do nothing early without some ways to trigger it. Generally you want 3-4 lands in the opener or some renegade maps to cover that amount. To start, look for hands that scale up appropriately. The deck is versatile enough to handle most of the tier 1 field while still putting up a fight against Vampires, Approach, and God-Pharoah’s Gifts. In the current setting of standard this puts it in a fantastic spot against the Temur/Sultai energy decks as well as many of the Ramunap aggro variants. I’ll go through the ins and outs and explain how you can pick it up for some nice free wins at FNM against your local overcrowded energy and ramunap meta.īW Tokens seeks to win through grinding out the game by setting up a powerful board state and removing the opposing board state. We’ll be covering the standard version of the deck floating around from the Ixalan Pro Tour. This week I’ll be attempting a deck guide to one of my all time favorite archetypes: Black-White Tokens. After a nice stint at a PPTQ last week I think it’s time to try something a bit more educational.
